Preventing Identity Theft

Adults of all ages, not just seniors, may be targets of identity theft. Identity theft is a multi-billion dollar business in the United States. Even though you may only lose a few dollars to these criminals, it may take years for you to regain you good name and credit.

Tips

  • When ordering checks, do not provide unnecessary information.
  • Always save your ATM or banking machine receipts, and never throw them into a public trash container.
  • Always shred pre-approved credit card applications, credit card receipts, bills, or other financial information before discarding them.
  • Memorize your passwords. Do not record them on paper or carry them in your wallet or purse.
