Volunteer Fire Departments
South Fayette Township enjoys fire and emergency response protection from four volunteer fire departments located within the community:
- Station 266, South Fayette (Cuddy) VFD
- Station 267, Sturgeon VFD
- Station 268, Fairview VFD
- Station 269, Oak Ridge VFD
Volunteering
Every fire station needs volunteers to help fight fires and provide assistance with fundraising, office duties and other activities. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your local station for details.
The four Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) in South Fayette Township provide residents, visitors, homes and businesses with 24-hour emergency response and protection. These departments also provide mutual-aid response to neighboring communities and counties when requested.
All of these departments are 100 percent volunteer, with no paid members or officers. These emergency responders are residents of the community and have full-time jobs, family commitments and the same daily routines as every resident--except when they are called to an emergency.
Please keep them in mind when the fire siren wakes you in the middle of the night or when the fire trucks are trying to get to a scene. Your support and contributions are greatly needed and appreciated.

How You Can Help
- Donate during annual fund drives. Please be generous when local firefighters sends out their fund drive letters.
- Attend fundraising events sponsored by the departments. These events raise money that is critical to continued fire safety services.
- Volunteer your time and talents with your local department. People interested in being trained as firefighters are always needed, and so are people to help with bingo nights, fish fries, fundraising events and business activities. Whatever time you have, there's a job for you at the local fire department.
- Mark your home clearly with house numbers at least 4 inches tall (6 inches recommended for businesses) so that your building can be quickly located in the event of an emergency. Numbers should be easily visible and may be placed on mailboxes if directly in front of the building.
Smoke Alarm Safety Tips
- Test alarm monthly.
- Change the battery at least once each year.
- Replace all types of smoke alarms after 10 years.
- Install alarms in high places on every level of your home, in every bedroom and next to every sleeping area.
- Make sure everyone knows the alarm sounds and how to respond to them.
- Plan your escape route and agree on a meeting place outside.
- When the alarm sounds, get out quickly and call 911 from a neighbor's house.
- Once out, stay out!
