Community Overview

South Fayette Township, established in 1842, is a fast-growing community in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, about 17 miles southwest of Pittsburgh and 15 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport.

Residents enjoy the homes, parks, schools and other services and amenities, while businesses appreciate the direct access to roadways such as Interstate 79, Route 50 and the Southern Beltway.

South Fayette takes great pride in being A Community Growing Together. South Fayette's population was 18,358 in the 2020 U.S. Census, a 27.3% increase over a decade. More than a quarter of the population—26.8%— is under age 18. The 2010 Census had counted 14,416 people —an increase of more than 48 percent since 1980.

Total assessed real estate value exceeded $1.8 billion in 2024, including significant increases in commercial property values.

Named in honor of Revolutionary War hero General Lafayette (1757-1834), the 21-square-mile township has a rich heritage and a bright future.
